Sarawak Teachers Union(STU) has proposed yet again that the ministry of education train more local Sarawakian teachers to cater for Sarawak and Sabah.

The move according to it’s president William Ghani, would help curb the current problem faced by the Sarawak Education Department, which sees teachers from the peninsular applying to go back to their home states.

According to Ghani, it would be much better to have locals as teachers as they not only understand the culture challenges but also it is much cost effective to do so.

Ghani was responding to news which broke out in a local daily about non-Sarawakian teachers applying to leave the state in the masses after only a few years working in the state.

Ghani further added that we should not talk about a world-class education system when there isn’t enough teachers to go around.
