Dato’ Rashid Khan, CEO of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has said in a recent press statement that the recently concluded Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) had a spin-off estimated at RM37million to the economy.

Rashid said that 65% of those attending the festival was non-Sarawakians with the total attendance for the most popular music festival in Malaysia standing at 22,290 people.

Aside from the RWMF, STB also intends to promote Sarawak to greater heights particularly events such as the Sarawak Regatta, Bintulu International Kite Festival and so on. STB is also looking at participating in the coming MATTA Travel Fair in September and MITM in October to further promote Sarawak as a tourist destination.

STB also took the opportunity to thank both foreign and local media for promoting the RWMF since its inception 15 years ago.

As an appreciation to the local media covering the RWMF, STB held a ‘Break-fast dinner’ at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching last Wednesday.
