Sonar Tribal Project came in second in the recently concluded DiGi’s Challenge for Change (C4C) finals in Kuala Lumpur. The project represents Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Sarawak at the finals.
The final result was tweeted by Sonar Tribal via their official twitter account @sonartribal, and it was confirmed by several DiGi officials over twitter.
The team comprising of Hafizi Asmuni, Sufyan Kamarol Zaman and Aduruce Izzul took Sarawak by storm since their project went ‘live’ after the DiGi Challenge for Change Sarawak.
They have since unearthed some new talents in traditional tribal music, conducted a boot camp in Kampung Sebayor Kota Samarahan, released a six song EP which was sold out, and performed in various functions including the Social Media event of the year Tweet-Up Kuching 2011.
Rumour is going around that Sonar Tribal may be performing at this year’s Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) altough no confirmation has yet to be received. Nonetheless, shall it materialize, it will definitely transform this local project into a massive international brand as the award winning RWMF is South East Asia’s biggest traditional oriented music festival yet.
To Sonar Tribal and UNIMAS, congratulations!
