SIBU: Sibu has been identified for the state’s first e-waste collection centre, costing about RM500,000.

The proposed two-storey structure will be built in Deshon Road and is hoped to solve problems of indiscriminate dumping of electronic waste (e-waste).

Reports suggest that the project is the initiative of the Computer Sales and Association Sarawak (CSSA) Sibu branch, and that it is fully supported by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

Electronic waste or better knowns as e-waste in Sarawak has been on the rise as Sarawak moves towards embracing technology.  However, despite the good electronics generate, it’s e-waste  can cause irreversible health effects and environmental pollution, and hence the need for such centre.
