Shops at Pending Seafood gutted in Saturday fire

Fire destroyed five shoplots at the Pending seafood court at Jalan Simen Raya here, early Sturday morning.

Three of the shoplots – No. 33, 34 and 35 – were rented by an eatery operator, known only as Chai, 40.

Chai said he had just stocked up his freezer at his eatery with RM50,000 worth of fish, and had not expected the fire when closing for business at 11.00pm on Friday.

Two other shoplots, No. 36 and 37, rented by another seafood operator were also affected by the fire.

According to a spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department, Mohamad Shahrir Abdul Halim, firefighters and two fire engines from Tabuan Jaya and Padungan fire stations were dispatched to the scene.

Shahrir said the firefighters did not face water pressure problem and managed to bring the fire under control in half an hour and prevent it from spreading to adjacent shoplots.
