The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has stressed that it remains committed to developing and improving internet connectivity in Sarawwak.
MCMC said in a statement, that under the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA), a total of 742 locations, both in urban and rural areas in Sarawak, have been identified for the purpose of installing and building telecommunication towers.
The towers are scheduled to be built this year the statement adds.
MCMC also clarified that 106 of the said towers had already been constructed while the balance will be installed during the third quarter of the year.
Overall, MCMC expects all towers to be fully installed by the final quarter of next year.
In addition to that, MCMC also said that 1,283 transmission station in Sarawak had already been upgraded to 4G, while another 1,606 stations are currently being upgraded.
MCMC further explained that they are also currently tendering out the broadband services which use satellite technology for 523 locations with the commission expecting some 43,013 premises to be hooked up to fixed (wired) high – speed internet via fiber optics cables.
