The new Samsung Galaxy S9 was revealed a couple of days ago, and there’s a lot of hype about it.

Samsung has been teasing that the new phone is ‘re-imaged’ which is right, because the phone itself has focused a lot on changes in the camera.

So hey, the question is should you get one?

Well, if you are interested to know what I have to say, then read on, but bear in mind that my points are solely based on the technical specifications of the phone because I’m not such a huge tech blogger that gets to review the phone first hand.  Also, for this review, I am focusing more on the Galaxy S9, and not the Galaxy S9+ because it’s almost the same in terms of many thing, except for the physical size, the dual camera setting on the rear, the screen size, battery size and weight.

So without further delaying, here’s what I have to say.

Based on the specifications, there’s little to shout about for the Samsung Galaxy S9 if compared to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S8.

It comes with all the whistles and bells that the Galaxy S8 had, like the Gorilla Glass 5, like the IP68 water and dust resistance, the 3.5mm audio jack, the LTE support, and the 3,000mAh battery, just to mention a few.

There were of course improvements with the processor, which is now a faster Exynos 9810 Octacore processor, the increase of external MicroSD memory card capacity support, and the additional stereo speakers which the Galaxy S8 didn’t have.

However, the biggest and probably the most hyped change comes in the camera, which now has a faster shutter speed of f1.5 enabling you to capture images clearly regardless of the time of the day.

The darker front screen makes the Samsung Galaxy S9 look really stylish to me. I don’t think there’s any other phone that has done this before, so Samsung, through the Galaxy S9 and S9+ is indeed leading the way.

Also, the shift of the fingerprint scanner makes the rear of the phone look even better than its predecessors. I never liked Samsung’s rear design until the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9+ because the rear looked odd, and it’s interesting how just the slight change made such a huge difference to me.

Then, there’s the much hyped cameras. With an aperture of f1.5, it is the fastest camera on the smartphone to date.

According to Samsung, the new camera allows you to do plenty of stuff which I bet many would love, including taking better photos where light is dim, and also snapping slow-mo videos.

However, for me, except for the faster aperture which makes photos snapping faster, the rest is largely software, but then, I am no photographer, so if the auto-setting gives me good results, I am happy.

It is hard to tell you what I dislike about the Galaxy S9 since I don’t have it in my hand.  However, if specifications of the phone are judged, I would say that the nice blacken stylish glass that forms the phone would be a fingerprint magnet.

Also, the price which is above RM3,000 is a huge turn off to me, and I am still not really a huge fan of Samsung’s Android customization.

Aside from those things, I guess the phone is pretty complete.

It depends. Do you have over RM3,299 to spend?

Do you think a smartphone with just a few upgrades from it’s predecessor is worth the cash?

Do you really need a new phone?

I can’t answer those questions for you, but if you are using your phone a lot for video making, or you think it’s about time to upgrade your phone, then this is one of the best Android phones out there.

Pre-ordering the Samsung Galaxy S9 would be the best time to buy the phone if you want to be among the few to own this masterclass device, with some perks.

Samsung has a tempting offer right now if you pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S9 or Samsung Galaxy S9+ from Lazada.

According to a press release I received, pre-orders of the Samsung S9 on Lazada Malaysia run till 4th March 2018 and customers who make their purchases during this period are scheduled to receive their phones from 9th March on wards, which is before the platform’s official sales of the phone that starts on 19th March 2018.

All colours are available, and 0% installment plans are also available for customers making full payment. There’s also word about a free gift worth RM699 and a special VIP gift if you order it from Lazada!

Oh, if I had to buy one, I personally like the grey coloured Galaxy S9. There’s something about it that makes it shine.
