Sarawak coach Robert Alberts is rumoured to be the main target of Indonesian club Persib Bandung. Persib which plays in the Indonesian Super League recently parted ways with Croation Drago Mamic and Indonesian news portals are all abuzz that Alberts is the man whom will fill in the hot seat left by Mamic.
Persib Bandung commissioner Kuswara Taryono was quoted by persibmania.com last Friday as saying “Yes, Robert Alberts is one of the targeted coaches, but there are also another four local coaches whom we are also eyeing“. The website also revealed that Taryono is expected to reveal the coach’s name this soon as the candidate has requested for the announcement to be delayed.
Another news website sidomi.com also mentioned that Persib Bandung is looking for a coach familiar to the Indonesian football scene and that Alberts is one of the few foreign coaches whom fits nicely to this. The website also put emphasis on Alberts record in Arema Indonesia.
A quick search on social media sites particularly Facebook revealed that Persib Bandung fans have already started to welcome Alberts to their club, although no proof or official announcement has been made so far.
The Sarawak football fans will indeed be heart-broken shall the news linking Alberts and Persib Bandung materialize as the Dutch coach is very popular among fans for his passion for the team, and his good relationship with the Sarawak fans. The Sarawak fans will however will be a little relieved as Pro Titan coach Ivan Kolev’s name has also resurfaced as a possible replacement at the Persib Bandung. Nonetheless, Kolev’s name was not mentioned by any Persib Bandung officials.
Alberts has also been linked to the Singaporean national team earlier this year after he was quoted to have said he is interest to undertake such responsibility shall an offer come.
Sarawak face Kelantan at home this week, and shall the news materialize, it may just be Albert’s last game. Let’s hope Alberts stay with the Crocs.
