The federal government, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), has allocated RM450 million for the construction of telecommunication towers in Sarawak.

A total of 149 telecommunication towers had been constructed in Sarawak, while another 85 more were still in the planning stages.

The federal government was targeting to achieve 95 per cent Internet penetration rate throughout the country by 2020, with focus on speed, affordability and coverage.

As for now, Internet penetration rate in Malaysia is 67 per cent, with 78.3 per cent in Sarawak and Sabah.
