Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (P1), a wholly-owned unit of Green Packet Bhd, will spend RM30 million to kick start its fourth generation (4G) mobile services in Sabah and Sarawak.

The service will start with Kota Kinabalu by the second quarter of this year in which it expects to cover about 55% of households there by year-end.

The service will gradually expand its coverage to Kepayan, Lido, Fortuna, Karamunsing, Menggatal, Likas, Penampang, Pertagas, Inanam, Nosoob, Damai, Kingfisher Park within Kota Kinabalu, before it is expanded to other towns in Sabah and Sarawak.

P1’s 4G network currently covers 52% of the Malaysian population, with some 400,000 subscribers.
