A new mosque costing about RM20 million will be built to replace Masjid Bandar Kuching (Kuching Mosque) at Jalan Gambier by the end of this year.

The current mosque will be demolished, and a new one which will be a three-storey building with shop lots on the ground floor will be built.

The first and second floors to shop lots will be used for prayers and other religious activities.

The decision to build a new mosque was due to the weakened structure of the existing one, in which repairs would be much more costlier.
