Sarawak Tourism promotion in Bandung Indonesia took a new turn today when two Sarawak tourism operators, a private hospital, Sarawak Cultural Village and three hotels held the first business session with Bandung agents this morning in the city.

Coordinated jointly by the Sarawak Tourism Board and Express Air Indonesia, the two hour mini travel mart was attended by more than 30 Bandung based agents who have been anxiously waiting for opportunities to look for more business opportunities in Malaysia.

The session was a follow up of the Boards’ marketing initiative when it first made its market entry in the market place in November last year.

STB started its tourism promotion in Bandung after Express Air Indonesia launched its inaugural flight from Bandung to Kuching via Pontianak in October 2013.

Express Air initially flew its three times weekly flight late last year and had recently increased itsfrequency to six times weekly connecting and Bandung and Jogjakarta directly to Kuching via Pontianak.

With Bandung being included as another focus city in Indonesia besides Pontianak and Jakarta, it was hoped that the air accessibility will help in tourism promotion in JavaIsland facilitating visitors’ inter Cities movement.

Indonesia has been the Board’ focus markets with emphasis on neighbouring city of Pontianak where visitors sought medical tourism and shopping as the main attraction followed by educational tourism as main contributor in arrivals from the Republic.

Last year, Sarawak received a total of 464,661 Indonesian visitors an encouraging double digitincrease of 11.41% as compared to 417,072 in 2012.
