PAS has retained the Sungai Limau state assembly seat by defeating Barisan Nasional with a majority of 1,084 votes.

PAS candidate Mohd. Azam Abd. Samat garnered 12,069 votes while BN’s candidate, Dr. Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim got 10,985.

The announcement was made by the Sungai Limau Election Commission returning officer Abdul Rashid Othman at about 9pm last Monday.

Despite the win, PAS’s vote majority has gone down compared to the results in the 13th General Election.

In 2008, former Sungai Limau assemblyman and Kedah Menteri Besar, the late Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Aziz, beat his BN opponent by 2,774 undi.

Voter turn out was at 85.5 percent.
