A massive online protest against the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) will see many websites go dark. Among those listed so far are Facebook, Twitter, Twitpic, Reddit, Mozilla, Google, Wikipedia and WordPress.
The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) also known as House Bill 3261 basically authorizes the U.S. Department of Justice to seek court orders against websites outside U.S. jurisdiction accused of infringing on copyrights, or of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. This means, US based sites hosting the unauthorized content will soon see themselves ‘forced’ to cut ties with these sites.
For Malaysians (particularly bloggers whom love to use photos/images/songs/videos without proper written approval), the approval of SOPA and PIPA will see you loose out on your passive earnings from Google Adsense, and have your your access to Facebook, Youtube, Reddit, Twitter and WordPress further restricted as internet companies will need to cut you out for sharing unauthorized material.
