MIRI: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin promised to support the effort to upgrade the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway.

Media reports say that the minister had urged Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui to raise the request during the cabinet meeting, in which he will give his backing.

Peter Chin was reported to have asked for the Pan Borneo Highway to have more overtaking lanes which is expected to cost about RM400 million.

He was quoted as saying that upgrading the whole stretch of the highway to dual-carriage roads would be very costly and nearly impossible at the moment, and hence his suggestion to improve it with more overtaking lanes.

The Pan Borneo Sarawak highway is the longest federal road system in Malaysia.
