BUKIT JALIL – An even match was seen between Sarawak and Selangor at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium. Sarawak whom looked a little shaky without Guy Bwele started off well as the to dominated the first half of the game with good passing and vision.
Sarawak almost broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, but poor finishing disappointed them with K Rajan and Zamri Morshidi guilty of missing at least a two clear chances each.
Selangor however woke up from their slumber and started to launch counter attacks to the Sarawak goal mouth in the dying minutes of the half and had their closest chance through a free kick which hit the high post. Srawak goalkeeper, Saiful Amar Sudar had to be replaced with Sani Anuar Kamsani in the dying minutes of the first half due to n injury.
The game ended with Sarawak displaying good passing and understanding, but with the score stuck at 0-0.
The second half saw Selangor desperate to find the winning goal. Their effort produced at least 3 corners but poor finishing made the score remain. Sarawak, obviously lacking control in the midfield had to defend countless attacks from the Red Giants, and rely on fast counter attacks. This tactic almost clinched Sarawak a goal in the 60th minute, but a free kick from Yosry Derma Raju was save.
Selangor continued to press on, but the defense of Sarawak kept their composure to deny the Red Devils a goal. At the last 10 minutes, the Crocs started to mount attacks to the Selangor goal mouth with K Ravindran and Zamri Morshidi spearheading each attacks. However, their effort was either off the mark or save by the sturdy Selangor defense until the final whistle.
This game if anything, proved that both Sarawak and Selangor are desperate for a clinical striker. Robert Alberts in his post match comments, said that he is pleased with one point from the game, and that Sarawak was rather unfortunate in this game having to loose their first choice goalkeeper Saiful Amar Sudar, their captain Hairol Mokhtar. He also noted that the team wasn’t able to field both their imports and that he had to rely on the young strikers to prey on for goals. Alberts also did manage to slip in a joke about Sarawak looking to sign available Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.
