Maxis has tweeted that they have blocked an automated SMS which Xiaomi smartphones are sending out to activate the Xiaomi Mi Cloud services.
According to the brief tweets by Maxis, the number, +447786209730 is based in the United Kingdom, and that Maxis is working with Xiaomi to rectify the problem.
We are not sure how the issue came to light, but it is believed that customers of Maxis have alerted the telco that international SMSes are sent out by their mobile phones without their knowledge. International SMSes are chargeable under the telco SMS plans, and normally cost much higher than local SMSes.
We do not have more details of this problem for now, and will keep you updated shall information be made available to us.
