Lee Chong Wei won the Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012 singles title Sunday, beating Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro 17-21, 21-8, 21-10.

The World No 1 started cautiously, losing the opening set 17-21. However, he fought back in the second and third sets, winning 21-8 and 21-10 for a convincing victory.

The win, his fourth straight one in the local event, will give Chong Wei a much-needed boost for the coming Olympic Games in London, where the Malaysian has been top-seeded to win the gold medal.

Other results saw Malaysians dominating as Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong won their match against compatriots Chooi Kah Ming and Ow Yao Han in the Men’s doubles, while Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying defeated Indonesian Irfan Fadhilah and Weni Anggraini in the mixed doubles.

Malaysia also excelled in the women’s doubles when Chin Eei Hui and Wong Pei Tty defeated the Singaporeans pair Sari Shinta Mulia and Yao Lei.

The only Gold medal not belonging to Malaysia was from the Women’s Singles when Ongbumrungpan Busanan of Thailand defeated Japanese Takahshi Sayaka.
