Starting Monday, all low-cost carriers operating in Thailand will be based at Don Mueang Airport to take the traffic burden off Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Thai AirAsia, Thailand’s biggest low-cost operator, will become the first to have a flight take off from Don Mueang Airport on Oct 1, Thai News Agency reported.

President of Aeronautical Radio Thailand (AEROTHAI) Squadron Leader Prajak Sajjasophon says his agency is ready for the switch-over, which may double the number of commercial flights operating at Don Mueang airport from 250 per day to as much as 400 per day.
