Lin Dan secured his fifth World Championships title by defeating arch rival Datuk Lee Chong Wei 16-21, 21-13, 20-17 after Chong Wei was forced to retire injured.

The game was nail-biting as both badminton legends gave their fans something to cheer about.

However, in the second game, the air-condition was turned off, resulting in what Malaysian officials deem as the main culprit for Chong Wei’s cramps in the game, hence forcing the World No. 1 to call it quits in the last and final game.

Chong Wei was later rushed to the hospital, where he was admitted and treated by China medical officers. His condition was reported to be stable, and improving.
