Sarawak has proposed the setting up of the state’s fourth Mara Junior Science College in Lawas to meet the educational needs of outstanding students in the northern part of the state.

This was revealed by Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at Pesta Lawas.

The idea was also revealed by on May 24 by Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal whom was quoted as saying that the federal cabinet had approved the construction of a new MRSM in northern Sarawak.

According to Shafie, the new college would be built under the current Tenth Malaysia Plan (10MP).
