I wanted to check a couple of TV series for downloads since it would be faster for me to download them using torrent sites, rather than waiting for it to air on TV.

So I went to my favourite torrent site, extratorrent.cc. , Surprise, surprise, the image above showed up instead of the typical torrent front webpage.

Interestingly, the image above is not something new as a few friends did tell that they have seen such image over sites related to pornography, and also broadcast content.

A quick check with a friend who works over at the Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission (MCMC) reveals that they do not put up such notices, hence making it a huge question mark who is responsible for such ‘landing pages’ on sites which are banned in Malaysia?

A link given under the site however reveals that one needs to contact the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives & Consumerism (MDTCC) to gain more information, hence prompting me to believe that such move is done to protect copyrighted materials.

Fact is, it is either the Malaysian Government already starting to display websites they are banning, or telcos taking the initiative to put up such landing pages, with the instructions given by MDTCC.

Those however interested to by-pass any restrictions can however opt to use VPN, which I am telling all bout here.

Have you seen such landing pages when you visit a site before? Do share.
