Granade found in Serian

NEW SARAWAK TRIBUNE – A live hand grenade was found inside a used shoe at a second-hand goods shop at Jalan Pekan Baru, Serian last Tuesday.

A female worker, in her 40s, stumbled upon the grenade at about 4.00pm as she was counting used shoes which had just arrived.

Serian police chief DSP Mohd Jamali Umi said after the police were informed of the find, a police team was sent to the shop and cordoned off the area to prevent entering the shop.

All of the workers in the shopping block were ordered to leave the premises.

A bomb disposal unit from Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters in Kuching arrived later and confirmed that it was a live grenade.

The bomb unit took the grenade away for disposal. Police are still investigating the case.
