Forget about 100Mbps because Sarawak is proposing to go way ahead of that by probably being the first state in the nation to reach 2Tbps. Yes, 2 terabits per second! You did not read that wrong.
Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the Sarawak government is committed to make this a reality and has invested some RM1 billion to ensure such infrastructure is ready, with the hope that the total cost of RM2 billion needed to lay down the fibre optic, cloud computing and satellite to cover the whole of Sarawak would be met with the help of the Federal Government.
According to Johari, the construction of basic ICT infrastructure to cover all areas in Sarawak must be done within the next four to five years, which is an interesting promise considering the challenging geographical nature of Sarawak itself.
Johari further said that Internet connection of 100Mbps in areas like Kuching and 20Mbps in the rural areas was not sufficient if Sarawak wanted to venture into the digital economy.
