Two workers were killed on the spot in an explosion at BBC industrial estate at Bintulu yesterday.

The victims identified as Jerry James Idum, 19, and Ling Hock King, 39, were repairing a rusty valve of a fuel tanker, which contained petroleum residue, when the explosion occurred at 2.00pm, believed caused by their welding equipment.

The force of the blast hurled Jerry’s body, which was torn into two, about 50 metres from the spot. The blast also killed Ling, who sustained serious head injuries.

The victims’ bodies were later taken to Bintulu Hospital for post mortems.

The cause of the explosion is still being investigated.
