20 year old local girl Emma Ruran Raja whom hails from Long Peluan in upper Baram got herself featured in the New Strait Times for her ability to play the lute, popularly known as the Sape.
Emma whom is of English and Kelabit parentage says that she doesn’t see it as her responsibility to carry on the tradition, but rather as a hobby to do so.
She further explained that she started learning the sape 12 years ago though maestro Matthew Ngau, and has since been asked to perform music festivals including the famous World Music Festival.
