Malaysia almost upset Arsenal in a friendly the home side did not take lightly last night. The game saw Arsenal controlling much of the possession in the first half, but Azmi Muslim’s stunning 30m strike in the 45th minute left Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone rooted to the spot and the Malayan Tigers ahead at the breather.
The second half saw Malaysia and Arsenal both exchanging attacks with possession equally shared. As the game grew closer to the finish, coach K. Rajagopal omitted several of his regulars for fresh legs, hence allowing the Gunners to move deeper into the Malaysian side.
Three minutes before the final whistle, two quick goals by Thomas Eisfeld in the 87th minute and Chucks Aneke two minutes later sealed the Gunners’ win, hence denying the Malaysians a famous upset over one of the world’s best football teams.
