Sarawak General Hospital’s old hostels for rural patients and their families will be renovated soon, possibly before the end of this month.
The budget for it is RM400,000, and will involve the refurbishment of 32 rooms and 36 beds on all three-levels of the former nurses hostels, according to the building plans that were finalised yesterday morning.
The state Health Department expects the renovation to be completed within four months from the starting date.
SGH director Dr Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the funds for the renovation had been provided by the National Welfare Foundation and the Rotary Club of Kuching Central.
He said the scope of renovation included complete reinstallation of wiring and sewage facilities.
