Public varsity students must sign contract

All university students will have to sign a contract with their respective public universities when the new semester begins in September.

The contract includes conditions on the ‘do’s and don’ts’ for students at the universities.

Contracts will be drawn up by the individual university but the ministry will ensure there is general uniformity.

The contract mechanism was introduced to monitor activities of students on campus.

Breaching the contract can go both ways with the interests of both sides being safeguarded.

It is understood that the contract is part of the amendments made to the Universities and University Colleges Act (Amendment) 2012.
