Proton has recalled thousand (5,280 units) of the Mitsubishi Lancer based Proton Inspira, manufactured between September 2010 and May 2011 to fix its drive belt pulley (V-ribbed belt).
The recall is similar to the one done by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia last month concerning the Lancer.
According to Proton, the drive belt pulley in the affected Inspira models may develop possible pulley wear after a certain mileage or driving conditions. Such problems might cause premature wear to the unit, which may result in “battery depletion and engine overheat.” Steering effort for the power steering system could also increase, Proton says.
The recall would see Proton fixing the problematic component and Proton would bear all labour and parts costs related to the issue. According to Proton, they have sent out letters to notify the affected customers, who are also urged to contact authorized Proton service centres to book an appointment.
