MSL 2012 Report: Crocs dent Kelantan’s title hopes

Sarawak almost gave Kelantan their second defeat of the season, but a lapse of concentration in the last 10 minutes allowed both teams to enjoy the spoils in a electrifying match at the Sarawak State Stadium.

Sarawak started off well by engineering countless attacks against the Kelantan goal mouth with Joel Epalle showing off his passing skills much to the delight of a full house in Kuching.  However, it was Guy Bwele whom stole the limelight after he curled in a beautiful free kick from outside the penalty box, giving Sarawak the lead.  The goal was celebrated with a massive roar as the sea of red shirts celebrated their unexpected lead over the Malaysia Cup winners.

Unsatisfied with the goal, Sarawak mounted more attacks through Ashri Chuchu, K Rajan, Epalle and Zamri Morshidi but they failed to find the back of the net.  Kelantan whom depended on counter attacks were left defending most of the time with Sarawak creating chances through both Bwele and Epalle.  Unfortunately, the home team failed to net their chances and the score remained in the favour of the Crocs at the half time.

The second half saw Kelantan playing better as they started to dominate the midfield with the help of Indra Putra Mahyuddin.  Despite their efforts, the Sarawak back line marshalled by Dzulazlan Ibrahim stood strong, curbing the emerging threat from Nwoha Onyekachi and company.  The game went on from end to end, but the score stood with Sarawak still at the drivers seat.

Kelantan pushed harder for the equalizer as the full time came near, and were handsomely rewarded when a lapse of concentration among the Sarawakian defenders allowed Norfarhan to power a shot, hence defeating Sani Anuar whom has been in top form.

Norfarhan’s goal revived the game for Sarawak whom were already in defensive gear.  Sarawak almost regained their lead in the 89th minute when Rajan’s shot on goal was pushed out by a Kelantan defender on the goal line.  Minutes later, a corner kick for Sarawak almost delighted the home fans, but Azizan’s powerful header which already defeated Sharizan was headed out for yet another fruitless  corner for Sarawak, and the final verdict that both teams are destined to share points.

The draw will definitely hurt Kelantan more than Sarawak as Lions XII won their game with Johor FC to stay at the peak of the table.
