Sarawak failed to adapt well to the artificial pitch at Stadium Jalan Besar as they lost to Lion XII 3-0 whom played far better than the visiting side from Borneo.
The game saw the Crocs ill passing with many passes ending at their opponents. With the ball moving fast, the Crocs simply failed to play to one touch football well adapted by the Singaporean side.
Curbing the many set pieces created by the home team was alsoa problem as the Sarawak defence looked dodgy and lacked ideas in passing the ball, hence resulting in them having to make desperate saves at the goal line numerous times.
In the 6th minute, Lions attacking pace gave them the lead when Safuwan slotted in the first goal thanks to a dangerous corner kick. The high corner was not cleared well enough, resulting in unmarked Safuwan to head it in easily.
Minutes later, Sarawak defenders led by Dzulazlan Ibrahim and Shahran Samad failed to clear an attack in the penalty box, and despite Saiful Samar’s gallant effort in sweeping the ball from Agu Chamir’s feet, he calmly slotted in the Lions second goal.
The second half took stage with Lions looking even more dangerous.
Sarawak tried to slow down the tempo, but Robert Alberts men were definitely outpaced by the Lions whom displayed pin point passing.
In the 62nd minute, Agu increased his goal tally when he finished off yet another poor catch by Saiful Amar Sudar.
The home team continued to roar and manace the poor Sarawak defence as they raided the Sarawak’s goal with countless attacks from numerous angles.
Sarawak tried to fight back, but K Rajan’s tame header was easily saved by the Lions custodion, while K. Ravindran’s long range effort hit the upper bar of the Lions goal.
With Sarawak having little to shout for, and Alberts seen shaking his head in disbelief, the match official blew the final whistle to mark a concrete and well deserved 3-0 win by the Lions XII over an obvious sub par Sarawak side.
Final score: Lions XII 3-0 Sarawak
