EURO 2012: Spain and Italy share spoils as Croatia win

Spain and Italy failed to overcome each other in the first fixture for Group C last night. The game which was marred by over a dozen yellow cards saw Italy lead after the halftime whistle through A.D. Natale whom came in as a substitute.

His goal was however cancelled out by Cesc Fabregas two minutes later when he raced on to a Silva pass inside the box before smashing the ball past Buffon.

Spain continued to push for the winning goal afterwards, but even the inclusion of Fernando Torres failed to change the score which remained at 1-1 until the final whistle.

In another game, Croatia triumphed over the Republic of Ireland when they sealed a convincing 3-1 victory over the latter.

M. Mandzukic opened the score as early as the third minute to put the Irish ahead. The goal was however cancelled out by S.S. Ledger 15 minutes later when he inswinging free-kick hit the back of the net.

Croatia however went up in-front again minutes before half-time with a cheeky chip from N. Jelavic before M. Mandzukic scored the final goal of the game to seal a 3-1 victory for the Croatian side.
