Bario-Ba Kelalan road to start building next month

According to a report by the Borneo Post, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) aims to start building the Bario-Ba Kelalan road in July this year by using soil stabilisation technology.

The initial phase of the project cost some RM48 million, and it shall link the Kelabit Highlands with Lawas. The rest of Borneo is expected to follow a new route although the authorities do not rule the possibility of using certain sections of the present logging road.

The road would include a four-kilometre stretch from Buduk Nur to the border with East Kalimantan.

The report also added that the Bario-Ba Kelalan road is expected to be less than 50km long and it will be a continuation of the Long Luping-Ba Kelalan road which was also built under the ‘Jiwa Murni’ concept.
