Sarawakian football fans smiled from ear to ear after local hero Ashri Chuchu (pic: source bharian.com.my) was called to play for the Malaysian Harimau Muda squad coached by Ong Kim Swee.
According to news reports, 21-year old Ashri will be among the 24-player squad representing the Malaysian Under 23 Olympic squad whom play in the Asian Zone Group C Olympic qualifying this coming March 18.
The Lawas-born Ashri who hails from Kpg Luagan has been prominent in the Sarawak squad with his performances earning praises from many commentators and local football fans. However, Sarawak coach Robert Alberts has also stressed that Ashri needs to improve his awareness to make him an even better player than he is now.
With the call up, Ashri would be hoping to make his national debut in Jordan, when Malaysia face Syria for a game with only pride at stake. The Malaysia under-23 team has already been knocked out of the Asian Zone Olympic qualifiers.
Our comment: Our local boy shines. Hope more will be called.
