600 wifi villages in Sarawak by year end

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is confident that it can complete installation of all 600 WiFi (wireless fidelity) villages in the state by the end of this year.

According to MCMC, about 200 wifi sites have been set up throughout the state with places like Bau enjoying up to 12 sites.

MCMC Sarawak has been working hard to improve the internet penetration in the state as they try to catch up with the national penetration rate of 62.4 percent.

Sarawak is ranked among the bottom four states in the national broadband penetration rate together with Sabah, Kelantan and Pahang.
